happy brass
Tempo felice (a happy time), 1983
Fausto Melotti
brass and painted terracotta
39 3/4 x 34 1/4 x 12 1/2 in
The first book of the day, I am cataloging Fausto Melotti: Anti-sculpture. A new artist for me, at first glance I wasn't particularly interested, but as I flipped through the catalog, the breadth of Melotti's work encouraged me to take a second look. I am not sure if this is the best choice of his work's to share (I am thinking that my blog should veer closer to an artist of the day as I keep on discovering new people) but a quick search (didn't get a chance to blog last night for today and I should be on to my next book by now at work) came up with Tempo felice. This work is reminiscent of Calder but the variety of his work recalls a range of artist peers.
Back to work but if you are curious, a good NY Times article reviewing a Melotti retrospective held in NY in May.
